Ambience Sound Library

Quiet Streets 3 is the latest chapter in Articulated’s Quiet Streets series, offering a meticulously crafted collection of quiet urban ambiences. Designed with both creativity and precision in mind, this library captures the essence of urban stillness through the advanced Schoeps 3D ORTF recording technique, resulting in multi-dimensional soundscapes that reveal both horizontal and vertical spatial details.

This library features 100 files delivered at 96kHz/24-bit. With a total size of 74.8 GB and over 9 hours and 40 minutes of carefully curated ambiences, Quiet Streets 3 is a comprehensive resource for creating immersive urban soundscapes.

A Global Journey Through Quietude

The recordings span cities across three continents, capturing the unique characteristics of urban environments in Paris, London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Bangkok, Naples, Kuala Lumpur, Montreal, Regensburg, Hong Kong, New Delhi, Strasbourg, Singapore, and more. Each location offers its own subtle yet distinct textures, from the hushed buzz of a late-night street in Bangkok to the subdued murmurs of a Parisian alley at dawn.

A Commitment to Quality

Over two years, our team travelled to these cities to document quiet moments in urban life. Recordings were made at various times of day and across seasons, capturing the interplay of natural and environmental sounds. The ambiences feature layers of biophony (birdsong, rustling leaves), geophony (wind, distant rain), and faint traces of anthropophony (passing footsteps, distant traffic). Care was taken to minimize intrusive noises, ensuring that these recordings integrate seamlessly into projects that require clarity for dialogue or sound effects. Note: at times some distinctive authentic events were kept in order to give the choice for the editor to use them in their projects. These are tagged as marker on the spectrogram.

A Versatile Tool for Storytelling

The library’s 8-channel 3D ORTF format provides an intricate sense of space, making it ideal for surround sound configurations in film, video games, and immersive media. For those working in stereo, we’ve included a high-quality downmixed version of every file, offering flexibility without compromising quality.

Recorded with the acclaimed Schoeps 3d ORTF system, it has a total of 8 discreet channels, 4 on the lower plane arranged in 2 pair of ORTF similar to a IRT-Cross, and doubled with a higher plane of 4 more microphones. The channel layout of the sound recorded and delivered is as this: L R Ls Rs hL hR hLs hRs (whereas h stand for high). Learn more about this configuration here: https://schoeps.de/en/products/surround-3d/ortf-3d/ortf-3d-outdoor-set.html

Every file is embedded with UCS-compliant metadata, allowing for intuitive searching and streamlined integration into your workflow. The metadata includes detailed descriptors, location names, and environmental characteristics, making it easy to find the perfect ambience for any scene.

A Timeless Collection for Any Project

Whether you need the intimate quiet of a European alley or the expansive stillness of an Asian metropolis, Quiet Streets 3 provides a rich palette of urban soundscapes. This library is not just a collection of audio files—it’s a carefully curated journey through the subtleties of urban life, designed to enhance the emotional depth and spatial realism of your projects.

With Quiet Streets 3, you’re investing in a resource that will remain relevant across countless future projects.

Magic Elements vol.1 :
The library is great. It’s mastered in a way that allows for some pretty extreme processing. Thanks! I’ll check out some of the other ones.

While I love the exotic SFX library as much as the next guy, what really gets me excited is a well recorded “meat and potatoes” library, since my main clients are animation, where I have to create everything from scratch. Dice is just such a library, when you find all the heavy hitters like Sound Ideas, and Hollywood Edge‘s offering coming up short. Offering plenty of variety to fit any scene, I sure wish I had this a couple seasons ago. Also if you think outside of the box, there’s a lot of these sound you could use in building up some great “punching your teeth out, and spit them on the floor” type of scenes, etc. This is sure to get a lot of use in future projects.

In the past two years of doing sound editorial, I have been searching for specific quiet sounds that general sound libraries do not provide. When I discovered Articulated Sound website, I found Quiet Streets sound library which had a great collection of quiet, calm, to busy street activity. At times when you are editing a scene you just need a calm street for an evening scene or a midnight of the night ambience. Articulated Sounds helps with subtle sound effects that are very sought after when you need clean sounding effects.

I’ve always found the recording quality and curation of the Articulated libraries to be well thought out.
My first was the Rustle Tones library, which is my go-to as a nice base layer.
I’ve since bought a few more of your libraries, and they have always been high quality and a safe bet.
Curious Mechanisms has been great. Specifically, I’ve been using S-layer to sample sections of the library and combine different elements for sci-fi mechanisms.

Lovely sounds of quiet spaces– it is always great to have options like these for layering cityscapes. As a sound designer, and developer, I love to support the community which allows such great options for all of us in the field- thanks for making neat sounds!

I’m finding that I’m using Rustle Tones on every single project at the moment and just wanted to say thanks for such a great library. It’s so useful!!

While creating the spooky forest and winter atmospheres in “HAGAZUSSA”, Articulated Sounds Libraries “Winter Forest” and “Rustle Tones” helped me with a great diversity of high quality sounds to lead the audience “deep into the woods”. I find “Quiet Streets” really usefull in every scene, where a city needs to sound minimalistic and spare.

The sonic quality and well grounded metadata are great. It makes finding that sound you are looking for that much easier and lets you focus on creating rather than curating. The recordings found in the Tropical Ambiences Library really helped shape the unique ambient soundscape for the jungle scenes in “Loving Pablo”. The snap, crack and blood pop sounds found in the Bones, Blood, Gore Elements Library helped kick the gore factor up in the film “The Dare”.

With Magic Vol. 2, you guys truly live up to your name “Articulated Sounds.” This is a wonderful library full of detailed recordings and well thought-out sound designs.
It’s clear that the sounds were created by sound artists for sound artists. With Magic Vol.2, Stephane and Vincent have done their due diligence and have anticipated many of the types of scenarios and design moves that you will certainly encounter while building supernatural-type scenes.
My secret weapon in regards to this library, as well as Magic Vol. 1, is the fact that the source recordings of fire, earth, foliage, ice, and air are so good they can be used well beyond just the intended “Magic” scenes and can sweeten and add character to many other types of scenes.
Great addition to any sound designers toolkit!

We have been using sounds from the Winter Forest and Undiscovered Libraries on various projects in the past. The provide with nice clean and colorful elements that have proven there added value. The provided meta-data is a great help in finding the desired and right sound-effect.
